THE BRIEF

After years of military moves, our client had accumulated meaningful furniture, artwork, and keepsakes from many different homes and seasons of life. Now settling into what they hoped would be a long-term home, she found herself surrounded by pieces she loved individually but struggled to bring together into one cohesive vision.

She wasn't looking to start over.

She wanted clarity.

Our goal was to help her define her personal design style, create a unifying direction for the home, and provide a practical roadmap she could implement over time. The result was a comprehensive e-design plan centered around a warm, collected aesthetic that honored both her history and the life she was beginning to build.

Our Approach

Before making a single design recommendation, we focused on understanding who she was rather than simply what she liked.

We guided her through a design style assessment and conversations about how she wanted her home to feel—not just how she wanted it to look. From there, we identified recurring themes that resonated with her through our conversations and her shared Pinterest pages and translated them into a clear design language.

Instead of replacing everything, we built a framework that allowed many of her existing pieces to work together through intentional repetition of color, texture, materials, lighting, and architectural details.

The final e-design package included:

  • A defined design identity and style direction

  • A whole-home color palette

  • Mood boards and virtual flat lays

  • Room-by-room design recommendations

  • Paint selections

  • Lighting, hardware, flooring, and material guidance

  • Furniture and styling recommendations

  • An implementation roadmap she could follow over time

Our Recommendations

After listening to her timeline and budget parameters, we developed a strategy focused on creating cohesion across the entire home.

Some of the key recommendations included:

  • Establishing a warm neutral foundation inspired by California Collected, Scandinavian simplicity, and Rustic Modern warmth.

  • Introducing consistent materials such as warm oak flooring, black accents, aged brass, natural linen, leather, and handcrafted pottery throughout the home.

  • Simplifying visual clutter by editing accessories and allowing meaningful pieces to become focal points.

  • Replacing builder-grade lighting and hardware with timeless fixtures that reinforced the overall aesthetic.

  • Creating continuity from room to room through repeated finishes, paint colors, rugs, and architectural details.

  • Providing inspiration imagery and curated product selections that gave the client confidence in future purchasing decisions.

Why It Worked

The success of this project wasn't found in purchasing all new furniture.

It came from giving the homeowner a decision-making framework.

For someone who had spent years adapting to new homes every few years, having a clear design identity eliminated the uncertainty that often comes with decorating.

Instead of asking,

"Does this match?"

she could begin asking,

"Does this fit the vision we've created?"

That subtle shift transformed every future design decision into something much simpler and more intentional. The home began feeling less like a collection of previous addresses and more like a place that reflected who she is today.

What we loved most about this project...

This project reminded us that great design isn't about following trends or filling rooms with new furniture.

It's about helping someone feel settled.

Our client already owned beautiful pieces filled with memories. She simply needed someone to help connect the dots.

Watching her move from feeling overwhelmed by years of accumulated belongings to having a clear, confident vision for her forever home perfectly captures what we love most about e-design. Sometimes the greatest transformation isn't replacing everything—it's giving someone permission to keep what matters and edit everything else with intention.
