Casual Retreat
THE BRIEF
Our clients had recently moved into a beautiful new home that offered far more space than they'd ever had before. While they loved the home itself, several of the rooms still felt unfinished and disconnected from how they wanted to live.
The primary bedroom had never been intentionally designed before—it had always been a place to sleep rather than a retreat. The entryway also felt empty and oversized, leaving little sense of arrival when walking through the front door.
Their goal wasn't to fill the house.
It was to create spaces that finally felt calm, welcoming, and distinctly theirs.
Our Approach
Rather than beginning with furniture, we started with a feeling.
The goal wasn't to create a themed "coastal" home. Instead, we wanted to capture what she loved most about California interiors—the lightness, warmth, simplicity, and effortless comfort—and reinterpret it in a timeless way.
Every recommendation was chosen to:

Our Recommendations
Entry
The entry had beautiful proportions but lacked a visual destination.
We created an arrival moment by introducing a warm wood console, oversized round mirror, woven storage baskets, layered lighting, and simple organic accessories. Every element serves a purpose while making the space feel inviting from the moment you walk through the front door.
Primary Bedroom
The bedroom already featured beautiful architectural bones and quality furniture.
Rather than replacing everything, we layered softness around what already existed.
New bedding, artwork, lighting, rugs, textiles, and accent pieces transformed the room into a retreat—one that feels peaceful at the end of the day while remaining practical for everyday living.
Why It Worked
The success of this project wasn't about filling empty rooms.
It came from giving every piece a purpose.
Natural woods balance crisp white textiles.
Soft blues add calm without overwhelming the neutral palette.
Layered textures create richness without clutter.
Storage blends seamlessly into the design.
Most importantly, the spaces finally feel proportional to the home itself.
The entry now offers a warm first impression, while the primary suite has become a place designed for rest rather than simply sleep.
What we loved most about this project...
Nothing felt "staged." It simply felt like an invitation to live calmer.
That is actually harder to accomplish than making a room look beautiful.
The family photos stayed.
The television stayed.
The client's existing furniture stayed.
The accessories aren't precious.
The spaces looks like someone actually lives there—but lives there well.
